From here the world first heard, from a posting on the bulletin board, of Howard Carter's great discovery of Tutankhamen's treasures. The great Egyptologist frequented the hotel until his death. The Victorian style hotel was built in 1886, and is located on the banks of the Nile in the heart of a tropical garden close to the Temple of Luxor. Many celebrities and Royals have graced its doors. Throughout the hotel there are artefacts exhibited, delighting, in an age gone bye.
The guest bedrooms have high ceilings and are charmingly furnished reflecting the style of the hotel. There are 3 bars, one on a terrace with a view of the Nile, the elegant English style Royal bar offering cocktails, and other refreshments, with classical piano music every night. Traditional afternoon tea is served every day in the Lounge. There is also the Oasis snack bar. Dine in the celebrated 1886 formal restaurant, the pool side light meal El Nakheel restaurant or the elegant La Corniche forà la carte.
